What are Separate Tickets?
Separate Tickets occur when a single itinerary has two tickets issued.
When do they happen?
- There is no agreement between the two airlines that the ticket is to be placed under one.
- Combining certain fares from different airlines cannot be sold into one round trip fare.
In the below example, we can see that the outbound flight selected is with American Airlines (AA).
On the search results, one of the available flights to choose from for the return trip is with British Airways (BA).
Since BA is an entirely different airline than the outbound carrier, a warning note will be seen to indicate that when the flight is selected, a separate ticket will be issued upon purchase.
What should you expect?
- This will not cause any issues in processing your tickets as this is normal in the travel industry. Nonetheless, the platform is set-up to prompt this reminder in case your trip is booked this way.
- For Changes and Cancellations, each ticket will be governed by different sets of fare rules of each responsible ticketing carrier.
